If WinRunner and QTP both are functional testing tools from the same company. Why a separate tool QTP came in to picture?

QTP has some additional functionality which is not present in WinRunner. For example,you can test(Functionality and Regression testing) an application developed in .Net technology with QTP,which is not possible to test in WinRunner

PeopleSoft Technical person knows how to code in PeopleSoft to execute the requirement.
PeopleSoft Functional person knows the Domain i.e the Customer Business, user processes and maps them to PeopleSoft and performs the rule and the Configurations required and collects the requirement and decides what is customization or what is delivered by PeopleSoft.
PeopleSoft Techno Functional person is having the knowledge of both technical as well of Functional role. But todays world considers who ever knows peoplesoft Coding as well the Configuration in PS is a Technofunctionl person.

what are the various aspects to be tested for an internet application as opposed to a database application ?

First explain back to the interview the difference between DB apps and Web based apps. Assuming the same set of user functionality between a browser based application and database application there are a few key differences.

A key difference is the notion of "state". Most webapps are stateless.

Another key difference is the communication between client and server. Most web apps would be at least 3-tier apps - most DB apss woudl be 2-tier. The number of layers could be different but the protocol is most certainly different. Generally web-based apps on based on some aspect of tcp/ip while db apps are socket based or vendor specific protocol based.

This is just a few areas
