This is a trick question! If you say something like I would like to work for a charity, or open a business, or do something else - the interviewer can ask you why aren't you doing those things that you really want to do? And that's a fair question, because you are not interviewing for the job you really want.

To use figures of speech such as metaphors -- comparisons of two things that don't use like or as -- it definitely helps to have examples. The trick with using metaphors is to watch out for cliches and avoid mixing them. Expressions like "the calm before the storm," "Mother Nature," or "he's a rat," have been used so often that they're now cliches. Although it's difficult to avoid cliches altogether, make an effort to either use more original metaphors, or simply choose straightforward description.

Another common problem with regard to metaphors is the tendency to mix them or overwork them, usually from careless thinking, as in the example above, or over thinking.

This question can be a trick question. By answering truthfully, you may be revealing that you do not have the level of skill necessary to do the job well. I try to reaffirm all the skills I currently have and how great they are. Then say there is always room for improvement - even professional athletes have to train everyday.

I agree, in answering the question truthfully one gives an impression of not being competent enough. It also gives the impression that the person is pessimistic in his approach to work and that he could do better if he had those skills.

You can't, really. free() can , but there's no way for your program to know the trick free() uses. Even if you disassemble the library and discover the trick, there's no guarantee the trick won't change with the next release of the compiler.
