Green biotechnology is biotechnology applied to agricultural processes. It is  the designing of an organism
to grow under specific environmental conditions or in the presence or absence of certain agricultural chemicals.
Green biotechnology tends to produce environmentally more friendly solutions than traditional industrial agriculture.
An example of this is the engineering of a plant to express a pesticide, thereby reducing the need for external
application of pesticides.

Plant molecular farming is the growing of plants in agriculture to produce pharmaceutical or industrial
compounds instead of food, feed, or fibre. The possibilities range from the manufacture of medical
products, such as pharmaceuticals (drugs) and vaccines, to the production of products like biodegradable plastics and industrial chemicals.

Being aware of the risk involved in a job you are working in is considered part of the job. The drawbacks of working in chemical manufacturing unit could be:

Manufacturing chemicals usually is a continuous process; this means that, once a process has begun, it cannot be stopped when it is time for workers to go home. Split, weekend, and night shifts are common.

The plants usually are clean, although the continually running machines sometimes are loud and the interior of many plants can be hot.

Hardhats and safety goggles are mandatory and worn throughout the plant.

Hazards in the chemical industry can be substantial, but they generally are avoided through strict safety procedures. Workers are required to have protective gear and extensive knowledge of the dangers associated with the chemicals being handled. Body suits with breathing devices designed to filter out any harmful fumes are mandatory for work in dangerous environments.

The odor that plumbing material may give is generally termed as "waxy plastic citrus," "fruity plastic" and "burning plastic."  Amongst  the various kinds of plactic pipes available, its known that, cPVC has a low odor potential and it doesn't seem to release many organic chemicals. HPDE actually had the highest odor production, although it doesn't release very many organic materials. The PEX-b pipe had a moderate amount of odors and also a moderate amount of organic chemicals that were released into the air. PEX-a had fewer odors and organics release than the PEX-b pipe.

It would be wise to ask neighbour as to what kind of pipes they use and whether it is giving them any problem or not.
