We have to enable the service from the psadmin.PSDBGSRV is the service which should be set to yes to start the debugging of peoplecodeGo to configure the domain in psadmin and follow the instructions.

App Reviewer was the peoplecode debugger in PeopleTools 7.0 and 7.5, Debugger is the the Peoplecode Debugger used in 8.0 and above

Field Edit peoplecode is fired when you try to change the value of a field on the page and Save Edit peoplecode is fired when you try to save the page. Both validates data but Field Edit peoplecode is used to validate the data for only that particular field which is changed and Save Edit peoplecode is used to validate all the data changes made to the fields on the page.

A record is basically a table in PeopleSoft. There are 7 types of records in PS.
A record peoplecode is something that will run for all the components wherever this record is used (provided we have not used any wrapper to check the components). The people code is used to write some validations or business logics after a page is displayed to the user.

What is the difference in using SQL directly and calling SQL from Peoplecode in Application Engine?

If we use SQL directly then it will go to database directly to fetch rows of data. But if u write SQL'S in peoplecode, then the trip will be from application server to database because peoplecode resides in app server.
One should avoid writing SQL'S in App engine peoplecode as it would degrade the performance.
